Cadetships

The Young Professionals Provincial Cadetship Program contributes to economic development through the growth of a skilled regional workforce and growing, sustainable population into the future.

For students who move away from regional Victoria to study, the Young Professionals Provincial Cadetship program will provide the opportunity to undertake a paid work-based cadetship in a field related to their study, in regional Victoria, during the semester break. The program provides a direct link to employment and an ongoing connection with regional Victoria for students who have moved away to undertake their preferred course of study.

A myriad of opportunities

Adam Harding has been able to buy his dream sun-filled 1950s-style house since moving to Horsham to work at Horsham Regional Art Gallery.

He believes that he would not have had the opportunity to buy such a house if he had moved back to the Melbourne suburbs where he grew up.

Housing has been one of many advantages for Adam in living and working in Horsham.

He arrived at the gallery in July 2007, taking over as curator after seven years working at Warrnambool Art Gallery.

Within two years Adam had been promoted to gallery director; a role he describes as very challenging but also extremely rewarding.
blank Working in a regional Victorian art gallery has provided Adam with an extensive range of experiences.

"If I had worked in a metropolitan gallery I would have become a very good expert in one area of operation. Here I work in all aspects of the gallery and have had to form a very tight-knit team around me to achieve the ambitious direction we have for the gallery," he said.
"It is very rewarding. All decision-making impacts on the transition in style and transformation of the gallery as a whole," he said.

Adam said he had an amazing opportunity to oversee change in the art gallery and make his mark.

He has also enjoyed the opportunity to work on projects which expand beyond the gallery's walls such as Horsham's annual arts festival and taking part in discussion on arts in the region.

He said working at the art gallery also allowed him to help regional communities celebrate milestones in town histories.

Adam believes many Wimmera people are passionate about their communities and lifestyles and in making their lives full.

He said the Wimmera allowed time and space for personal thoughts not only in terms of landscape but in work opportunities and in interactions with the rest of the community.
