The accommodation centre complete with air strip allowed him to specialise in school camps and group activities and encourage fly-ins with aero clubs. “When I started 97 percent of my market was domestic. I decided that Australians love the Grampians why wouldn’t international visitors,” he said. Steve has since hosted many international students especially through Melbourne University’s exchange programs which sends exchange students to Steve for bush activities. He has also attracted a lot of backpackers especially those travelling the Melbourne to Adelaide and Grampians routes. After bushfires in the area in 2006, the couple decided to introduce a new venture, establishing Grampians Quad Bike Adventures which offered quad bike tours. Steve said it had been tremendously successful being attractive to international, family and domestic markets. The business now offers corporate team building, aviation club fly-ins, rock climbing, bushwalking and nature experiences, international university student experiences, quad bike and 4WD tours as well as school and other group activities. |
