If you’re looking for a holiday with wide open spaces, dynamic art scene, national parks, beautiful rivers and lakes, excellent eateries and culture than look no further than the Wimmera.
The Wimmera is a perfect holiday location. Beautiful lakes and rivers, the Little Desert and Big Desert, mountain ranges, national and state parks - it really is the great outdoors.
Combined with historic towns and vibrant modern communities, good pubs and an active arts scene, it is worth considering the Wimmera for your next holiday destination.
Jan and Jocks Story
Jan and Jock MacGowan of Hoppers Crossing had such a good time on their first holiday to the Wimmera in 2009 that they returned a year later to continue exploring the region.
“The Wimmera was so much more than we had expected,” said Jan.
“We had never really been to that part of Australia before, so when we took the time to explore the towns and the landscape, we regretted taking so long to visit.
“Some of the small towns like Warracknabeal and Murtoa are just fascinating. We found a couple of small museums staffed by the most knowledgeable volunteers. Murtoa is a small place, but we spent a whole weekend there and still feel like there is more to see.
“We loved being reconnected to parts of Australian history and culture that we seem to have lost touch with in the city. Most of all we loved the fact that people will take their time to stop and have a chat. We heard many great stories during our time in the Wimmera, and hope to go back for more.”
